Photo Requirements

We are passionate about producing excellent results every time and to do this, we need the highest quality images that you can supply.

For best results, send a high resolution photo (select original/largest when prompted) from your camera or smartphone.

If you are using a photo sent to you by someone else, it should be the 'original', ie. direct from their camera roll, and ideally not shared on Whatsapp or other Social Media, as these images are reduced by the app's software and often too small to print effectively. A photo's size should be a minimum of 1 MB (often displayed next to the photo when sending).

You may need time and patience to take the best shots. Take numerous shots and discard the majority!

Finally, if possible offer us a selection of up to 3 images, so we can choose the best one to work with our designs. We will always try to use your preferred image, but sometimes another variation can work better.

Please inquire at info@scribbleface.flywheelsites.com if you have any queries or questions about taking or sending photographs.

Pets

Bad Photos

  • Cropped faces
  • Too far away
  • Out of focus
  • Looking off camera
  • Busy background

Good Photos

  • Fill frame without cropping
  • On same level as pet
  • Looking at camera
  • In focus, not moving
  • Simple clean background

Pets can be hard to photograph. A calm relaxed portrait is best. The most important thing when taking the photo is that you are on the same level as your pet and head and shoulders are well in view, in focus and in the middle of the frame. Clean your lens and get as close as you can to the subject without cropping into their features. You can use treats and friendly noises to gain their attention!

Portraits

Bad Portraits

  • Cropped faces
  • Out of focus
  • Hair across the face
  • Squinting in harsh sunlight
  • Looking off camera

Good Portraits

  • Clear and in focus
  • Soft even lighting
  • Tidy hair
  • Space around subject
  • Looking to camera

Harsh lighting and messy hair are the two biggest issues with portraits. If you are outside and it is sunny try to find some light shade or use window light that does not throw too much shadow. Again a bright overcast day works well.

Silhouettes

Bad Silhouettes

  • Busy background
  • Face not completely profile
  • Out of focus
  • Cropped head

Good Silhouettes

  • Clean background
  • Photo at same level
  • Include neck and shoulder
  • Hair up or back works well

Silhouettes can take time and thought to get right. Make sure the face is perfect profile and shot against a lighter background or bright sky.
